CRICKETER HARBHAJAN SINGH LETOFF

ADELAIDE — The punishment of Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh for a supposed racial comment was reduced from a three-test suspension to a fine Tuesday, allowing India's cricket tour of Australia to continue.

The International Cricket Council said that the charge had been reduced to a lesser one of general abuse, for which he will be fined nearly $2,700 — 50 percent of his match fee from the second test at Sydney.
